tunity to visit some of the sites around Ypres and so participate in their own short pilgrimage. The visit to the Commonwealth War Graves Commission Cemetry and Memorial to the Missing at Tyne Cot on a site overlooking the third Battle of Ypres in 1917 remains both impressive and emotionally overwhelming. Hill 60, captured from the French in late 1914, was the site of so many battles between British and German forces in attempting to secure this vital piece of ground. Last, the Cadets visited the British trenches near Boezinge, discovered in 1992 along with the remains of 155 soldiers subse- quently buried with full military honours. It was a short and extraordinary trip and a marvellous honour
to play at the Menin Gate.
