Operation SHADER
Late in 2016 the Battalion was tasked to deploy to Iraq on Operation SHADER 5 in July 2017. For six months, our home was Al Assad, a Coalition airbase originally constructed under Saddam Hussein located deep within the Anbar desert near the Euphrates River Valley. The Battalion’s mission was fourfold: to provide the security for the entire airbase, a home to over 5000 Coalition Partners; this task lay with B Company. They commanded and formed the majority of the Security Force (SECFOR), a multina- tional company group approaching 200
strong consisting of United Kingdom, Danish and United States forces.
