Rifleman Hunt winning the welterweight final at the Army Individual Boxing Championships
Battalion Boxing
Since the last boxing update, the Battalion has been very busy planning, conducting and taking part in events that will hopefully provide dividends in the run up next season’s Army Boxing Major Units Championships. This year the Battalion has taken part in the Army Individual Boxing Championships in June. Our boxers won two out of the three weight categories that we entered into at Army level: Corporal McKendrie won the Heavyweight title and Rifleman Hunt won the Welterweight title. It should also be noted that after three fights Rifleman Longstaff lost in the semi-final of his weight category to an excellent opponent. Concurrently the boxing staff have also run a level one coaching course which has enabled the Companies to train their own teams in preparation for the Inter- Company Boxing Competition under the watchful eye of our Level two boxing coach Lance Corporal Bailey. Our Inter-Company boxing night was held on the 18th of July and was very successful evening with B Company eventually winning through as Battalion champions. Having now formed a
Battalion boxing team we look forward to the Army Boxing Major Unit Championships with a pre-bout in Lisburn against the Royal Engineers Corps team in late November 2018.
