is an incident they need to attend. Some of the crew are full-time firefighters at other stations in Northamptonshire during the day.
The Oundle crew cover the second largest patch within the county, with a total ground area of almost 21,000 hectares. As well as putting out fires and rescuing people, they make sure they get out and about in the community as much as they can – carrying out fire safety checks for vulnerable residents and visiting nursing homes, schools and summer camps.
“We’re always looking for people who want
to join our on-call team,” Matt Prior said. “You’ll get paid for the incidents you attend, and
you have to live close enough distance to the Station to be able to respond quickly. It’s such a rewarding role and a fantastic way to give back to the community which you live in.”
The Oundle crew hold a drill night at the Station on Glapthorn Road every Wednesday from 6.30pm to 9.30pm.
If you are interested in attending to find out more about becoming an on-call firefighter, then please email MPrior@northantsfire.gov. uk or call the station during the Wednesday drill night on 01604 797014.
