30 THE MARMALADE CUP
THE MARMALADE CUP
The distinctive red hulled A Day at the Races, owned by me for 23 years is well known to users of the beautiful Beaulieu River. She has been on the same mooring 200m upstream from Gins since 2001 and more recently has been seen with a white fluffy canine companion on board, called Rumpole of Battersea.
Last year, the RSYC entered into a reciprocal agreement with the City of London based LSC. Some members have already taken advantage of the Cabins overlooking the River Thames for overnight accommodation as well as a welcoming bar and restaurant with views nearly as good as Gins.
Barrie Martin has been a member for 20+ years and is currently Commodore of the Little Ship Cub.
My grandfather used to say to me “I think February is the worst month in the year”. Then, 15 years ago when the Little Ship Club (LSC) settled on February as the month to
visit RSYC Gins for a party after their Winter Fast Cruise, I offered a large jar of my 3 Fruit Marmalade as a Prize, and so it has been for many years known as the “Marmalade Cup”.
