The uncertainty regarding the closure of Prince William of Gloucester barracks remains but in the latest rebasing plans we were given an indication there will be no move before 2022. We have also been told that in the event of closure we will be given two years notice of the closure date. With that in mind, there are no current plans to relocate the HHQ Grantham although by the time the next Journal is published we expect that the satellite office in Wigston will have closed but no formal decision has been made.
2019 will mark the year in which Captain Mick Holtby will have completed 25 years in the Civil service working at first as Assis- tant Regimental Secretary, The Queen’s Royal Lancers and since 2015 responsible for Heritage for HHQ The Royal Lancers. He has indicated his intention to retire from the Civil Service but as I write this, we are working out ways to keep Growler involved in regimental matters!
HHQ Support to OCA Functions and Events
The Derby Reunion was held over the weekend of the 23rd March 2019, following the successful and tried and tested format with the two functions on the Friday and Saturday nights. The Friday night at the Hallmark Hotel was attended by over 100 people and as always, many members of the RLOCA, could be found in the ‘Neptune’ and the ‘Walkabout’ during the Saturday afternoon. Much of the conversation over the weekend was re- garding who would be taking it on the event the following year. At this moment we now have a new team in place with Richie Bass and Shell French offering to run it in 2020, with members of the ‘old guard’ acting as advisors. As we go to press, we are to understand there might be a change in venue as the Spot is changing management too!
