QARANC Student Nurses’ role in the Corps day celebrations
THE GAZETTE QARANC 25
A team of 22 students from the Department of Healthcare Education (DHE) attended the QARANC Corps Day celebrations with WO2 Karen Race (DSM) and Sgt Claire Moses, Student Support Officers. With very little time to rehearse, quickly grasping the weight of the occasion and embracing their roles, the students were split into two groups. The Marshalls led by WO2 Race, insured that personnel arrived at pre-destined venues in a timely manner and provided additional security for the event. Despite the adverse weather conditions morale remained high and the thermos mugs were put to good use.
The remainder acted as the Colonel- in-Chief’s car door attendants and participated in the service under the direction of Sgt Moses. It was a proud moment when the student nurses provided the Banner escort through the centre of the church. Pte Lucy Ashford-
Brown QARANC, a third year student nurse from DHE, had the privilege of reading the lesson. This she delivered with clarity and poise, demonstrating her professionalism as a private soldier. It was commented that she was an excellent role model and asset to DHE.
Following the service Sgt Moses together with selected students, Cpl Crabbe, Cpl Mwaura, LCpl Whitford, Pte Ashford-Brown and Pte Probert had the honour of meeting Her Royal Highness. The feedback from the students was that they had really enjoyed the event and those that met Her Royal Highness were very excited by the experience. The students remained professional throughout the challenges of the day, acting as positive role models for the DHE. It was a very successful celebration of the QARANC.
