REGION 16 of the AMERICAN SOCIETY FOR NONDESTRUCTIVE TESTING
ALASKA, COLUMBIA RIVER, LEWIS & CLARK, PACIFIC NORTHWEST SECTIONS
2018-2019 YEARBOOK
Pacific Northwest Section Leader Kathy L. Ferguson gave a
presentation on 16 February to 27 senior high school students at
Everett High School in Everett, Washington. The presentation included
a lab where students made robotic arms from materials provided by
The Boeing Company. Ferguson’s presentation described her career
as a materials engineer, and how she combines both failure analysis
and NDT to determine the root cause of component failures in service.
She also described various careers in NDT and invited the students to
come to a Section meeting and to check out the Section website to
learn more.
The Section held a meeting on 12 March at the Old Spaghetti Factory
in Tukwila, Washington, with 28 in attendance. This was the Section’s
annual student night celebration, when it hosts a fun-filled evening to
celebrate the graduating NDT students from Clover Park Technical
College. Before the meeting, the Section congregated with students at
the ACME Bowl Activity Center to shoot pool and socialize. The
meeting presentation consisted of two graduating senior students,
Mychal Weidman and Alex Roberson, who co-presented an overview
of the Clover Park NDT program. Both Weidman and Roberson did an
outstanding job creating a professional and entertaining PowerPoint
presentation that covered all the different NDT methods taught by the
school during the two-year program, as well as the background of the
faculty at the school. They also introduced the faculty members who
came that night to support the students. Most of the graduating seniors
showed up with their résumés and met with Section members who
work for Boeing, Mistras, and other NDT business leaders to network
and get exposure regarding potential job opportunities.
