LEWIS & CLARK SECTION
MEETING SUMMARY
Portland, Oregon
On 13 March, 2018 the Lewis & Clark Section of ASNT held its monthly
meeting at Flying Pie Pizzeria. Regional Director Emery E. Roberts offered
insight on how to keep the Section strong and engaged, and reminded the
group of the Section Leaders Conference in June and the then-upcoming
radiation safety course in April. Following the business meeting, Terence
Fistler , regional technical sales manager for NDT Systems, made a tech-
nical presentation on bond testing to the group. Bond testing is similar to
ultrasonics, but introduces a much lower frequency—a vibration—into the
test specimen to test for the presence of disbands, delaminations, foreign
material, and various other defects in carbon, aluminum, and honeycomb
glass fiber specimens. This lower frequency provides a much higher proba-
bility of detection of certain defects in these materials over traditional
testing methods. Test Equipment Distributors Inc. sponsored the dinner
enjoyed by 13 members and guests.
Lewis & Clark Section Co-Chair David F. Harris (left), presents Terence
Fistler with a small token of appreciation for his presentation to the at-
tendees of the Section’s 13 March meeting.
