Tips for Bundoran Visitors
We’re so stoked to have you here! It’s been a tough year for everyone and it’s so nice now to welcome you all back to beautiful Bundoran. We’ve been busy finding lots of new ways to protect our marine environment and help make
the town more sustainable. by Finn van der Aar @saltwaterstories.me
1. BYOB - bring your own bottle - A beach day is thirsty work! Having a reusable water bottle for everyone in the family, and even a few spares, is an easy way to ditch single use plastics on your trip.
2. While you’re on the beach why not do a - #2minutebeachclean and help protect some local marine life? Feel free to tag us too at @sustainablebundoran
3. Support local - Buying from small local businesses helps support the towns economy. Where businesses are championing local suppliers, this also lowers the carbon footprint of your stay significantly!
4. Ditch single use plastics all together! Many of our local food businesses have swapped to compostable packaging to help up reduce plastic consumption in the town. If you’re staying for a few days you could also prep some easy beach day snacks to take with you in lunchboxes.
5. Eat more plants - eating a few more vegetarian or plant based meals per week is another great way to lower your carbon footprint easily. All our local restaurants, cafe’s and take aways have lots of veggie meals to choose from or if you’re looking to make some yourself check out the recipe section of my website www. saltwaterstories.me for some quick and easy ideas.
6. Pack light - sounds simple eh? But packing just what you need is another easy win on the carbon front. It reduces the weight in your car, using less fuel!
7. Green travel - More than ever we are using less public transport, for understandable safety reasons. But in the years ahead when you’re coming back to Bundoran again (and when its safe to do so) consider car sharing or using public transport. It can put a massive dent in your trip’s carbon footprint & also save you money!
8. Think Before You Flush - don’t flush sanitary products or anything other than toilet paper, pee or poo down the toilet. Anything else causes massive problems in our marine environment and wastewater systems!
9. Recycle - Use the recycling facility at Laghey (23km) to get rid of your waste or unwanted large and electrical items. Most of this is free of charge to dispose of.
10. Stay hydrated - Use the water tap at Main Beach to fill your reusable water bottle and stay hydrated for those hot summer beach days!
