GROUND OPERATIONS
In this area, we will be looking at Ground Operations.
Ground Operations handles the service requirements of an aircraft between the time it arrives at the airport gate and the time it departs on its next flight.
What are the objectives of Ground Operations?
1. Ensure safety and efficiency in aircraft operations and handling of passengers baggage and air cargo
2. Ensure punctuality is met and reduce aircraft ground time as much as possible which increases aircraft productivity because the aircraft can depart faster
Airlines usually subcontract ground handling to ground
handling agents. Some examples include Swissport, SATS and dnata.
NOTE:
Subcontract refers to hiring an outside company to do a particular job for you.
