KEY PLAYERS IN AVIATION
Now, let’s take a few steps back...
The first key player we have is the governing body of civil aviation! The International Civil Aviation Organisation, it is more commonly referred to as ICAO!
Set up on the 4th April 1947, ICAO is a specialised agency of the United Nations based in Montreal, Canada. They work together with contracting states to ensure the safe development of international civil aviation through constant development work, standardisation and enforcement of these standards.
Contracting states are all legally bound to conform to the Standard and Recommended Practices (SARPS) and policies laid down by ICAO.
Did you know that there are several key players that ensure the smooth running of the entire aviation system?
FUN FACT:
the convention on international civil aviation, also known as chicago convention, was signed on 7 december 1944 by 52 states. while pending ratification of the convention by 26 states, the provisional international civil aviation organisation (PICAO) was established. it functioned from 6 June 1945 to 4 April 1947 and was later replaced by ICAO.
