MANAGING AN AIRLINE 2. Planning where to fly to An airline also has to plan and decide on where to fly as there are many destinations around the world. Based on the type and number of aircraft the airline has bought, the airline can now plan and decide where to fly to. Other considerations and information such as the demand of the destination, passenger preferences, the aircraft type as different aircraft have different capabilities, impact of competition of other airlines as well as restrictions for example, whether it is safe to fly to that country or not, can help the airline in making a decision on where to fly to. This stage is also known as Route and Network Planning.                                     Home base of airline              FUN FACT: Airlines can choose to be part of an Airline Alliance. An alliance allows airlines to group together for the purpose of expanding its route network while avoiding certain restrictions. The three biggest airline alliances in the world are known as Star Alliance, Oneworld and SkyTeam.
