After leaving school I became an Executive Officer Civil Servant working for three years at the National Assistance Board in Hertford.
I then gained a place at Nottingham University to study Social Administration, a degree suitable for those people wanting to do social work. I obtained an Upper Second Honours Degree in 1969, and I was fortunate to get into the Institute of Medical Social Workers’ final graduate social work course, qualifying in 1970.
I met Don who was Civil Engineer from Melbourne
working in London while at The Institute. We married six months later, and I came to live in Australia in 1971.
I have had a long and very enjoyable career, in Medical Social Work since 1970, and reached a senior position in Aged Care and Rehabilitation within the Public Health System. For my last ten years I worked in a private Rehabilitation Hospital, retiring aged 69. We have one son Steven who is a Technical Producer working out of Los Angeles.
Until Covid19 virus I was volunteering at the local Information and Support Centre, interviewing people who have financial and social difficulties, as well as informing tourists about our local tourist attractions.
