I also was somewhat saddened by Glenda's comments on the school. I too was one of the also rans - the only thing I knew was that I didn't want to teach! Sorry all you who have been teachers but that wasn't for me. We had some good teachers - some of whom stayed in teaching because they didn't marry (I think it was still the custom that you left if you got married but definitely if you got pregnant) - they were after all of the war generation and had lost partners. I can think of a couple who weren't that good but that goes for any workplace. I used to say that I had achieved what I had achieved despite being at QE.
Now older I realise that was a blanket comment and that I had a good grounding for life through attending QE. I still use Spanish from time to time and the Latin that I learnt there has helped me with medical terminology over the last 30 years. Yes, they did concentrate on the ones who went to university and whose names were read out in assembly but for girls to go to university was not as widespread as it is nowadays. I only did one year in the Sixth Form
moving on the Pitmans for 4 terms. I think that gave me a broader view of the world as I met a lot of people from the commonwealth who were over studying - I remember the Nigerian
