The Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) work with the agriculture community to support the payment of piece rate in compliance with state and federal law.

31 attempts to mandate union wage scales in economic
32 development projects involving agriculture.
33 We oppose Workers’ Compensation rules that
34 mandate fringe benefits being included in the base-rate
35 premium, including housing and health insurance. We
36 support the continued full liability coverage for
37 employers who exercise due diligence in employee
38 verification.
39 We oppose all local units of government setting a
40 minimum wage rate.
41 We oppose any additional tax on payroll wages for
42 health care.
43 Recently more and more farms have added roadside
44 markets and agri-tourism venues to their mix. We
45 believe LARA should view any and all labor that is used
46 for roadside markets and agri-tourism venues to be
47 considered ag employees. We encourage Michigan
48 Farm Bureau to work with LARA to develop and
49 improve agricultural classification codes.
#61 ANHYDROUS AMMONIA – NH3
Any increases in minimum wages be tied directly to increases of all wage-based employer thresholds, such as unemployment compensation insurance, frequency of withholdings, and frequency of deposits.
An evaluation of the current Unemployment Insurance Agency in order to overhaul and make it user friendly and accurate.
The current Registration and Seeking Work Waiver be extended from a 45-day to a 12-week 120-day waiver for agriculture.
