Over time, Salida’s economy has evolved more to tourism and outdoor recreation. Today, Salida offers many outdoor activities such as downhill skiing, white- water sports, mountain biking, fishing and hunting, and much more. There is an abundance of wildlife and wildflowers, mountains to climb, and trails to hike. It’s home to Colorado’s largest historic district, which houses multiple art galleries, a performance center, and restaurants and shops.
Tenderfoot Mountain, or “S Mountain,” as it’s more commonly referred to, sits above the town at the river’s edge. Beloved by Salidans, the “S” is lighted at night and alternates with a red heart that represents Salida’s location as the “Heart of the Rockies.”
