was constructed after the artist studied African art. Fanner paints her figures different shades of black with
just lips, no other facial features. She’s excited to bring her new work to DC and said that it’s about a conversation, women being heard, it’s about feminism, and “an African woman being completely powerful in her femininity and being respected as loved and equal because of that.”
Mahona recalls their New York experience at the HFAS. She said that viewers were pleasantly surprised at the
quality of the work and some of the artists got commis- sions after the show. All of the artists can’t wait to unveil what they have in store for the DC show. Mahona shared her insights into what to expect from the diverse group of traveling exhibitionists.
“It’s about vision, it’s about being able to work together, social cohesion, it’s about non-racism, it’s about—people with heart,” Mahona said. “I’ve got a group of people with heart.”
