Message from the MEC
December and January stand out as beacons in our academic calendar as we await the announcement of the National Senior Certi cate results and prepare ourselves for our learners to return for the 2020 school year.
So while the country is taking a break, public servants in the basic education sector are putting in place various mechanisms and plans to ensure that the academic year starts off smoothly. In this regard, we are preparing for the monitoring process when schools reopen after the school holiday break in January.
Monitoring of school readiness is done to ensure that all schools are ready for teaching and learning in January 2020. The state of readiness relates to admission of learners; infrastructure and provision of school furniture; availability of Learner and Teacher Support Materials (LTSM); availability of teachers as per the post provisioning norms (PPN); readiness of the National School Nutrition Programme (NSNP); and scholar transport.
In terms of infrastructure, there is a focus on the availability of basic services (water and electricity); safe and clean ablution facilities; enough classroom accommodation; and school furniture. These are deliverables that our people expect from their government and we need to deliver diligently.
Almost eight months into the new 6th administration, our work continues unabated towards creating an education landscape that we can all be proud of. The landscape in which we operate is unique, ceaseless and ever changing as the needs and requirements of our schools continue to transform.
I would like to call on all Department of cials to provide their unwavering commitment and support to ensure that we can do justice to our mandate when schools reopen.
To the Class of 2019... we are holding thumbs that you have made our province proud when the results of the National Senior Certi cate Exams are announced on 7 January 2020. It has been an honour to serve you and we wish you well for the future. Go out there and grab any and all opportunities to establish your path and plough back to your communities. We are counting on you to build the South Africa and the East Cape you want!
Wishing you and your family joy, peace, love and prosperity over the festive season!
Sininqwenelela nina neentsapo zenu, ulonwabo, uxolo nothando ngeli xesha lonyaka!
