The WalabotDIY uses superhero-style X-ray vision to show homeowners exactly what's inside their walls.
That could be stray nails, pipes, wiring or even pesky critters.
Anyone who has felt sick at the thought of a builders' bill will be pleased to know there's a cheap alternative to re-modelling your home. "This app gives our customers professional-like capabilities without training," gushed director of product Malcolm Berman.
To get X-ray vision, you need to attached the WalabotDIY power pack to the back of your phone and download the special app. Then hold it over a part of the wall, and it will tell you what's behind it for depths of up to 10cm. It's able to "see" through cement, dry wall and wood. Anyone who has felt sick at the thought of a builders' bill will be pleased to know there's a cheap alternative to re-modelling your home.
How does it work?
WalabotDIY is based on technology used to spot tumours in breast cancer patients. It uses radio frequencies to take a 3D image of what is infront of it, which can be visualised on a screen. It can detect different types of materials including water and different types of tissue. The technology can be used for all sorts of things, including sensing people behind a wall.It can even spot people's breathing patterns by how they move - so you could use it to monitor a group of people's emotions by how they sigh.
"Everyone who's ever done DIY knows that it's a lot of sleuth work, but this means you can accurately locate studs and wiring patterns so you can do it yourself," Berman added. But builders be warned, the app has already been flying off the shelves in the US, and now it's coming to the UK. Brits will be able to buy WalabotDIY for an introductory price of £99 from May 15.
