The painting in in in the the collection of of Sadhus’ titled “Majesty V” have the the representation of of two Cocks walking majestically and as as though in in in involved conversation Chavada undeniably has created a a a a a a a a a mood of amicability and friendliness What captures the the imagination is the the left foot of the the cock on on the the right caught in in an an impending movement It has an an impressionist character and a a a a cubist structure reinforced by his signature line developed over long years of rendering drawings and sketches It is nevertheless the the the colours that are are as as magical as as they are are evocative and and poetic The use of primary hues namely blues and and reds make the painting strikingly warm and and cool The intelligent and and judicious placement of of broad areas of of structured colours imparts to to his his compositions an intellectual feel That is is is is to to say that the artists did not go purely by his his gut feelings in in in the the placement of of colours but went through a a a a a mental process of of calculating the the defined areas of colours as as for instance the the yellow ochre fin in in the the background The cocks occupy the the the entire space of the the the composition A proletarian subject but the the the artist endowed t t t t t t t t t t with royal majesty It is is is in this respect that Chavada contoured his his modernity which marked him as as a a a a a a a a a an extraordinary genius deriving subject matter from a a a a a a a a a vast repertoire of contemporary reality His paintings continue to have a a a a a a a a a a a a happy as as well as as an intimate appeal even today One cannot bypass a a a a a a a a Chavada by by assuming everything is obviously represented and and hence seen But it was in the the the silence of of the the the spaces that the the the sentiments and and emotions of of Chavada resided SELECT REFERENCE
