The painting has has the the representation of the the Emperor Jahangir whose likeness has has been well rendered when compared with his his portrait executed during his his reign He sits in in a a a a pavilion that is narrow and and cramped but with a a a a a a a a a a a sense of scale and and resting against a a a a a a a a a a a large bolster the perspective of of which is is is askewed In front of of him is is is an an elderly courtier with his hands in supplication perhaps conveying some news to him with the representation of a a a a young boy holding chauri and and standing behind the Emperor The gesture of of Jahangir’s hand on his chest apparently is is is is that of of deep shock which he he he is is is is listening to with with grave seriousness with with eyes lost lost in in thoughtfulness The chauri bearer is equally lost lost in in his contemplative feelings It forms an an interesting and interactive group composition through gestures and glances Emperor has been delineated youthful attired in in a a a a a a long yellow ochre cotton printed jama with a a a a a a a a a blue-green kamar bandh at his waist wearing the only jewellery namely the the necklace that is is around his neck neck The turban turban has a a a a a a a a a a a peacock feather and turban turban jewel pin His foot wear is is equally interesting green in in in in color and resembles the high boots The courtier in in front of him is similarly attired but in in burnt umber and blue checked kamar bandh He wears a a a a a a a a simple green coloured turban The young chauri bearer is similarly attired in in in pink pink with green checked kamar bandh blue boots and and a a a a a a pinkish red turban 198
