Canola oil is made from canola seed. Canola was developed in the early 1970s using traditional plant breeding techniques by Canadian plant breeders to remove the anti-nutritional components (erucic acid and glucosinolates) from rapeseed to assure its safety for human consumption.
Canola is NOT rapeseed,
their nutritional profiles are very different.
Rapeseed & other oilseed products that do not meet the internationally regulated standard cannot use the trademarked term “Canola.”
Due to its unsaturated fat content, the Food & Drug administration in the U.S. Has granted Canola Oil a qualified health canola for its ability to reduce the risk of coronary heart disease.
Effective 2007, KFC in Canada, Taco Bell throughout North America, McDonald’s and other food chains in the U.S. have switched to using canola frying oil in their food service operations.
