Spicer was a miniature and enamel painter and secretary of the Society of Artists, 1772-3. This is a rare signed example of his work on ivory. Although the sitter has not been identified the portrait represents a fashionable lady of beauty and wealth which is demonstrated by the clothes and jewels that she wears.
