STAN HYWET-LANTERMAN’S MILL
This morning, we depart for the Grand Estate Tour of Stan Hywet Hall, which combines guided tours of the Manor House and gardens. First-time and returning visitors alike will enjoy exploring the Seiberling family home and learning what life was like
at Stan Hywet. The tour also includes a self- guided visit to the Manor House Gate Lodge, Corbin Conservatory, and the surrounding gardens. Lunch will follow at Cracker Barrel. Step back in time at Lanterman’s Mill, built in 1845 and restored in the 1980s. At the end of the 18th century, the land around Lanterman’s Falls belonged to John Young, founder of Youngstown. In 1797, Phineas Hill and Isaac Powers built the first mill using local logs and granite millstones; it was later replaced in 1823 by Eli Baldwin’s gristmill, which operated until a flood destroyed it in 1843. A grinding stone from that mill can still be seen in the creek bed today. This historic mill continues to grind corn, wheat, and buckwheat just as it did in the 1800s, allowing visitors to experience the sights, sounds, and aromas of early meal and flour production. Be sure to visit the gift shop for unique merchandise, eco-friendly gifts, stone-ground flours, snacks, and beverages. Includes: Transportation, lunch, admission to attractions $153.00
