I went. I had to
discard my first
collection of
glass because
I had no idea
if it was fusing
glass and if it
was the same
type and start
from scratch.
I learned so much from glass communities online, shop owners and making good old fashioned mistakes. I also remembered as a kid going to a rock shop in Stone Mountain Georgia and found pendants made with colorful murrini so I sourced those from various artists in the United States. I love making pendants with them- and each one is unique as I can never recreate the same piece twice.
Glass is very unforgiving. If it is heated too fast or cools down too quickly, it can crack. If you fire it too long, you may not get the look you want. I’ve spent hours putting together one piece only to have it crack in the kiln. But I don’t give up. Because when you get the piece you envisioned, it makes it all worth it. And then I don’t want to sell it! But I love it when others see the details and want to put my art in their home.
I love making nature scenes- especially flower gardens and coral reefs (I LOVE snorkeling). Then I throw in the occasional piece you wouldn’t expect (goldfish cracker necklaces or vintage toys) for the fun of it. I really enjoy making bugs of all types! Cicadas have been a hit. The list of things I want to try with glass is a mile long.

Just like one of the glass shop owners I met said- she started fusing glass several years ago and never looked back. And I can see why! I’ve only been doing it for about 2 years and I can’t get enough. I wish I had more time but I also have a full time job, husband and 8 year old autistic daughter and 2 doodles that keep me on my toes. I will have an Etsy shop back up and running after the shows end. I just can’t keep up with the demand and also be there for my family.
