A Treasured Tradition: Old-Fashioned Christmas in the Woods
A s we proudly celebrate the 31st year of Old-Fashioned Christmas in the Woods, we want to express our deepest gratitude to everyone who has helped make this festival such a treasured tradition. Our heartfelt thanks go to the talented crafters, dedicated concessionaires, wonderful staff, gifted entertainers, and—most importantly—our loyal attendees. Together, you’ve
made this event more than a show; you’ve made it a community.
We are especially honored that Sunshine Artist Magazine has voted Old-Fashioned Christmas
in the Woods the #1 Contemporary Craft Show in the Nation. This recognition is a testament to the quality of our artisans, the uniqueness of the setting, and the warmth of the people who gather here each year.
Nestled in a beautiful wooded setting, decorated for the holidays, the festival continues to grow. This year we are proud to host 230 crafters from 15 states, traveling from as far away as South Dakota and Florida.
Adding to the excitement, two actors from the beloved holiday classic “A Christmas Story” will be joining us! Zack Ward, who played the notorious Scut Farkus, and Scott Schwartz, who played Flick, will be on hand to greet fans and bring a special dose of holiday nostalgia.
With gratitude and thankfulness to God, we thank you for being part of this remarkable journey. Your support has made Old-Fashioned Christmas in the Woods a holiday tradition we can all be proud of, and we look forward to sharing many more years together.

It All Started in a Microwave
I
With warmest regards,
’ve always been one to make different arts and crafts. I love trying new mediums. I’ve always loved to draw, sew, needlefelt, paint - but I had never really dabbled in glass. Not at least until my husband introduced me to it on a whim. My husband had come across a video about a microwave kiln and knowing that I love to try new art styles, he thought I would find it interesting. Little did he know it would become a true passion of mine more so than any other craft

I have tried before.
After watching the videos he
sent me, my creative side started thinking of all the things I could do with the glass- even with a small 2” microwave kiln. I ordered a kit and began to try to “melt” the glass in the kiln. It was fun to watch the glass fuse together and see how it changed when it is heated. I quickly learned though that I couldn’t just fuse any type of glass together- some glass is made to fuse while other glass is for stained glass or mosaics. Simply firing random glass together can make it “angry” and cause it to crack. Other glass becomes very brittle once heated.
Sadly, you can’t just go to a thrift store, purchase a bunch of glass and fuse it together. It’s a little more complicated than that.
I was a little frustrated at first when I started creating things and seeing them crack or come out brittle and cloudy. YouTube is such a wonderful tool to learn from so I started watching videos and doing my own research. I also joined glass communities on facebook to read about their experiences. Ultimately I learned that I needed to stick to fusible glass and the same COE as well. So off to a glass store
