FORMULATION:
        Each vial contains Cefoxitin 1 g Powder for Injection.
        DESCRIPTION:
        It  is  used  to  treat  bacterial  infections  and  may  be  used  prior  certain  surgeries  to  prevent
        infections. It belongs to the class known as cephalosporin antibiotics. It works by killing bacteria
        or preventing their growth. However, this medicine will not work for colds, flu, or other virus
        infections.
        MECHANISM OF ACTION:
            •  The bactericidal action of cefoxitin results from inhibition of cell wall synthesis.
        INDICATIONS:
              For the treatment of peritonitis and intra-abdominal intrapelvic infections, septicemia,
               endocarditis,  gynecological,  respiratory  tract,  bone  and  joint,  skin  and  soft  tissue
               infections, urinary tract infections including uncomplicated gonorrhea
              It  is  special  for  its  ability  to  treat  certain  anaerobic  and  mixed  aerobic-anaerobic
               infections, such as pelvic inflammatory disease and lung abscess.
        DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION:
              Dosage should be determined by susceptibility of the causative organisms, severity of
               infection, and the condition of the patient. The total daily dosage should not exceed 12
               grams. The higher dosages should be used for more severe or serious infections.
            Adult:
              The usual adult dosage range is 1 gram to 2 grams every six to eight hours.
              i.e. Uncomplicated: 1g every 6–8hrs. Moderately severe to severe: 1g every 4hrs or 2g
               every 6–8hrs. Max 2g every 4hrs or 3g every 6hrs.
            Pediatric Patients:
                 ≥ 3 months: 80 to 160 mg/kg of body weight per day divided into four to six equal
                   doses.
            Prior to Surgery:
                 It should be given ½ to an hour before the operation to achieve effective levels during
                   the procedure.
                   Prophylactic administration should usually be stopped within 24 hours
        WARNINGS/PRECAUTIONS:
                 Do  not  take  if  you  have  known  Allergy  to  Penicillin  and  diagnosed  with  Renal
                   impairment or GI disease (esp. colitis).
        ADVERSE REACTIONS:
                 Local reactions, rash, pruritus, drug fever, GI upset, anaphylaxis, blood dyscrasias,
                   elevated liver enzymes.
        INTERACTIONS:
                 Do not take with Aminoglycosides and probenecid
                 Laboratory results: it may cause false (+) Clinitest and interference with creatinine
                   tests.
