Humboldt VFD Hearse
A 1998 Cadillac hearse is a unique addition to the Humboldt Volunteer Fire Department eet.
Rex Kappel, Humboldt Volunteer Fire Chief, spotted the hearse at his job working partime for
the local mortuary.
“We purchased it for $1,000, put a ‘Flame Busters’ logo on it, and a siren and Pyro-One. We
have used it for re prevention education and to help haul equipment,” Kappel said.
Besides promoting re safety, the hearse has
hauled rope gear and the grain extrication tube
and even been a way to transport re ghters to a
grass re.
“Neighboring re departments have borrowed it
or funerals for former re ghters. It’s been a
good addition to our department,” Kappel said. ”Fire departments have
borrowed it for funerals for
former re ghters,” Kappel said.
