Camp Colley Foundation 2020 Annual Report
The Foundation was prepared for more than 400 campers to experience the wonder of nature at Camp Colley across six (6) week-long sessions. Transportation, food service, and staff training were all secured and ready to go for a June 1, 2020 opening date.
COVID-19 was spreading rapidly through the spring and with the lack of clarity and best practices for stopping its spread, the Foundation made the difficult but necessary decision to
forgo the 2020 season for the safety of campers, their families and its staff. However, with just weeks away from launching the season all logistical components successfully came together which created immense clarity and hope. The lead components to the Foundation’s operations design worked seamlessly and the organization was poised to deliver Camp Colley’s most impactful season ever.
The Foundation had enough data to determine that its current operations plan could provide quality programming for larger groups of Phoenix children, more than it would be able to attend in-person.
In August when the City of Phoenix published its request for proposals to assume camp operations, the Foundation quickly jumped into the process to secure a long-term camp operations contract. Framing its program design with lessons learned from the lead-up to the 2020 season the Foundation submitted its proposal in September 2020. . After careful review, the Phoenix Parks and Recreation board of directors unanimously voted to approve the City’s recommendation that Camp Colley Foundation be awarded a five- year operations contract to run camp.
The Foundation is ecstatic! With program planning already underway, the Foundation is preparing for a safe, healthy and responsive 2021 Camp Colley season to ensure underserved Phoenix kids have access to nature for learning and growth next summer- programming that is needed now more than ever for these children.
We cannot thank you enought for your support over the past year and beyond, and we hope you will continue investing in the lives of our campers through making a donation to our scholarship fund for the 2021 Camp Colley season. Underserved children in our community are counting on it.
Be well, stay healthy, and have a fantastic 2021!
