Teaching lifesaving skills at Leeds Children’s Hospital
The Paediatric Resuscitation team have
set up drop-in sessions for parents, carers and guardians to help them learn basic life support for children and adults, how to deal with choking incidents and how to use public defibrillators.
The sessions are held every Tuesday at 1pm and 3pm in the Paediatric Education Centre on G Floor in Martin Wing at Leeds General Infirmary, and the team are all on hand to offer training, help and advice.
Mark Powers, Resuscitation Officer at Leeds Children’s hospital said: “These sessions are really designed to give parents that little bit more confidence and assurance that if they ever needed to, they could perform basic life support for their children. Of course we hope that no-one ever has to but in the unfortunate event that it is needed, we really want to help parents feel that they can do it and know exactly what to do.”
Training is open to parents with children of any age and the children don’t necessarily have to have been in hospital.
Kristen Sharp attended a session with her son Loui, she said: “I
found the course really interesting and informative. It taught me a lot and was really in depth which I wasn’t expecting. I would definitely recommend it!”
