  On the evening of Saturday 11 August, eight College members contested for the Reynolds Communication Cup, donated by College Fellow Professor John Reynolds. The event was judged by Professor Reynolds, along with Professor Richard Blaikie and Professor Sarah Young. College Leader Sera Rawson acted as Master of Ceremonies for the event.
The contestants were allowed to speak for up to three minutes on any topic of their choosing, with one static PowerPoint slide if they chose to use it.
Tessa Dalgety-Evans was judged the winner, with her speech titled “A is for Arts, H is for Humanities.” The judges awarded runner-up to Ashish Yadav with “A Silent Death.” Laurie Duncan was highly commended for “The True Meaning of Easter.” There was also a Peoples’ Choice Award, won by Jessica Kirton-Luxford for her speech on “People.”
Other speakers were Josiah Bugden (“Hope”), Niamh O’Donnell (“Will We Ever Achieve World Peace?”), Naveen Pallavan (“Dada”) and Loamé van Zyl (“Freedom of Speech – Whose Rights Do We
