Kenya and Switzerland: Rebekka—The Narrow Path. I chose the narrow path. I chose to walk by faith and not by sight, following the sound of God’s voice. In the back of my mind, I could hear the skeptics telling me I was too young to see such an ambitious vision come to life. Still, I have learned when my dreams are seemingly too big for this world, God can do “immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us” (Eph. 3:20).
Five years ago, when I traveled from Switzerland to Kenya for an internship at the Tumaini Children's Home, I was invited to attend the Kenya History Makers Journey. During one of the sessions, I heard the words that immediately reached deep inside my soul,
“Passion is a burning force within, seizing you with a power to move beyond ordinary human activity. It won’t let you go until God’s goals are reached.”
It was as though the facilitator was speaking directly to me, as if he knew I had this burning passion waiting to be released through God’s vision for my life. I immediately had a deeper connection to God’s heart for the least and the lost.
That week, God birthed a vision in me, which changed my life and the lives of many others forever. My heart was set on caring for the least of these in Kenya and raising up a generation of young leaders in Switzerland and Kenya. I imagined an organization that would feed, educate, and provide clothing for orphaned children in Kenya. Although I was unsure how to see this vision ful lled, I was willing to trust and dare to ask God for a way. I also knew I had to nd a way to see History Makers established back in my homeland of Switzerland.
Today, I lead an organization empowering leaders, impacting the lives of many children in Kenya, and enabling a volunteer program for Swiss youth and young adults. I am fully committed to the role of a History Maker to equip leaders and spread the Gospel in Kenya, Switzerland, and beyond!
Rebekka attended the Kenya History Makers Journey in 2011. The non-pro t organization she envisioned during her training now impacts the lives of over 400 children in Kenya and facilitates a volunteer program for Swiss youth, bringing 30-40 volunteers to Kenya annually. She and her team also launched History Makers in Switzerland.
