T he MOD. (www.mod.org.au) is a museum that explores our future. Recently opened on North Terrace, the spaces, activities and exhibits at the MOD. strive to “inspire young adults about
science and technology, showcasing how research shapes our understanding of the world to inform the future.”
MOD.IFY is the title of the rst exhibition commissioned by the MOD. It lls several galleries and explores themes about the way humans perceive.
Our Skies is one of the exhibits that together comprise MOD.IFY. Showing in a dedicated Universal Gallery, Our Skies will be of interest to those of us seeking to have authentic aboriginal cultural content in our science programs. The exhibit features immersive multimedia presentations given
by representatives from each of the Kaurna, Ngarrindjeri, Adnyamathanha and Mirning peoples of Southern Australia. The stories they relate give an insight into their perspectives of the sky.
Purle Munaintya (star lore) is also currently showing. This exhibit uses a series of touchscreens to beautifully
illustrate a presentation by Karl Telfa, Kaurna cultural bearer, on the Season of Kudlilla (the wet season between July-September).
It is intended that the exhibits, events and activities at the MOD. will be continually changing. Plans are for the current exhibits to remain in situ for 6 months before being replaced.
