Science as a Human Endeavour (SHE) Resources
Kate Dilger, SASTA Education O cer
With the introduction of the new SACE Sciences curricula, Stage 1 and Stage 2 students of Physics, Chemistry and Biology are asked to investigate a contemporary example of how science interacts with society.
Based on their investigation, students prepare a scienti c report. This Science as a Human Endeavour Investigation forms part of their Investigations Folio (replacing what used to be the Issues Investigation). As this task differs signi cantly in format and focus to the Issues Investigation, teachers were understandably keen to gather more information about how to construct and assess the Science as a Human Endeavour Investigation.
On behalf of SASTA, presenters Glen Arthur, Elizabeth Arthur and Oscar Oliver-Dearman ran
a half day workshop that outlined the requirements of the SHE task and took teachers through construction of tasks at both Stage 1 and Stage 2 level. In addition, sample tasks for each subject were shared and an online sharing platform was created for teachers to then add and share their own tasks. Members can access this online resource here: https://padlet.com/dilger/ii8dx33mcoxb
SASTA hopes to repeat these workshops later this year.
