Science Teacher Exchange to Japan
8 Teachers | 9 Days | 5 Schools
On September 30, eight passionate Science teachers from primary and secondary schools across Australia left for Japan to experience the culture, share new ideas and practice, observe Japanese science lessons, teach Japanese students and engage in discussions in science education with Japanese educators from a diverse range of schools.
Involved in the 2017 Science Teacher Exchange to Japan were:
Andrew McGregor, an educator from Yahl Primary School in South Australia is eager to integrate Australian culture in a lesson plan that he will deliver in Japan. The creative science teacher has designed a hands-on experiment involving the iconic Vegemite to conduct low voltage electricity. Andrew is keen to exchange teaching practices and gain insights about Japanese science education. He hopes that the exchange will enrich and equip him with new ways to engage and motivate his students (and we hope that the students in Japan like Vegemite too!).
Alexandra Fowler is an educator at Woomera Area School. She is passionate about science and is always keen to build onto her knowledge base through professional learning.
Their itinerary included visiting the Museum of Aeronautical Sciences, the famous Miraikin (National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation) Chibacity Science Museum, ve schools including one super science high school, as well as many opportunities to immerse themselves in the culture.

Day 2: Japan Here We Come! - by Tanya Riach
What an amazing journey so far and we have so many fantastic days ahead. Thank you Latitude Group, for your sponsorship, to allow us to have so far, the best P.D. experience ever.
I am from a small rural town in the centre of NSW and I have never been overseas so my experiences have been very eye opening. The ight here was fantastic, Japan Airlines, great service, lovely experience. Customs was an eye opener. Lines and lines of people moving slowly through scanners for ngerprints and retina, show passports again, next person give declarations. The hotel for the night had a fabulous buffet for both dinner and breakfast that allowed us to try traditional Japanese food as well as western versions.
