212 hours. Attempt all questions. Marks for each question are shown in brackets.
1. A vessel displacing 4500 tonnes has a constant KM 6.2m and a present KG 5.8 m. The vessel loads 50 t of cargo on deck at Kg 8.5, and then moves 100 t of cargo from the `tween deck (Kg 5.5 m) to the lower hold (Kg 2.3 m), all weights being on the centre line.
Calculate the ®nal GM. (15)
2. (a) A vessel is ¯oating in water of R. D. 1.025
The initial drafts are: 4.10 m forward and 4.85 m aft. Cargo is then loaded as follows:
150 t at 80 m forward of the aft perpendicular. 70 t at 25 m forward of the aft perpendicular.
LBP 100 M; TPC 15; MCTC 40.
Centre of Flotation is 45 m forward of the aft perpendicular.
Calculate the ®nal draughts on completion of loading. (25) (b) Isthe®naltrimdesirable?Givebriefreasonsforyourconclusion.(5)
3. Outline the contents of the `Code of Safe Practice for Merchant Seamen' with respect to cargo winches, derricks, and hatches. (25)
