COMMITTEE
The Weston Forest Committee met in the small
conference room at 10 Nickerson Avenue eight times in
2024: March 5, April 2 , May 7, June 4, September 3,
October 8, October 29, and December 3. Agendas and
minutes of these meetings are on file at the town clerk’s
ofice and televised via Middleborough Community

The March 5 meeting included the question of hunting in
the Weston Forest and was attended by interested
parties. Each person in attendance was given the
opportunity to express their concerns and opinions in the
matter. Mr Weston’s will was also brought forward by one
of his relatives. Based on these discussions, the
committee members voted unanimously to retain the
ban on hunting in the Weston Forest which has been in
place since 2003. This recommendation was forwarded
to the Select Board.

A surveillance system and postings seem to have reduced
the amount of trash in the parking areas and throughout the
forest.
Communications have been improved in two ways. One is
the creation of an email address to contact the committee:
westonforestinfo@gmail.com
Also, a FaceBook page has been created under Frederick
Weston Memorial Forest to provide reference and
educational information, publicize upcoming events, and
get feedback from users of the forest.
Trail maintenance continues to be a major goal. The
committee wishes to thank the members and volunteers
who have been part of this ongoing efort. Trail mapping is a
recent project, in order to produce an accurate map on the
town website. GPS data is being collected to make this a
reality, in cooperation with a town grant for this purpose.
The committee thanks Bart Devine for his eforts and
expertise in this important project.
New routered wood signs were made to be hung in the
entrance area of each parking lot. The committee thanks
Mac Sprague and the Middleborough High School
Innovation Lab for their skill and assistance with this project.
