Souders is best known for her ritualistic physical and structural approach to artwork that interweaves texture, form,
line and color. Her process involves mapping, exploring organic constraints and seek- ing the possibilities in continuous systems. “I see my work as maps of

the mind, the mind’s inner landscape in which I interweave my con- scious and unconscious.” The surfaces of her paintings are intensely worked until they appear both destructive and regenerative. Unearth- ing the painting’s hidden layers allows actual interaction between the inside and outside of the painting. “My paintings expose my mental geography where through the imbrication of textures and movement I can interweave the topography of the brain and the outside world.”
