While at the Tibetan monastery, besides studying, Provan spent his time medi- tating and submitting to a purification process which included the performance of 100,000 prostrations. When he returned to the United States, he earned a BA in Painting and Archi- tecture from Yale University, and then an MA in Painting from the Royal College of Art in London. His work has been shown in galleries and museums throughout the United States. In 1988 he received a Pollock-Krasner Award, and in 1995, completed a major sculpture in- stallation for the New York City subway. Cur- rently he lives in the New York Hudson Valley with his wife and two children.
