Goodwin studied biochemistry at UCLA; graduate work/research at UCSB; and scientific photography at the Brooks Institute. He has photographed the marine environment of the Cayman Islands, Bonaire, Cozumel, Fiji, Indonesia, Brasil, and the Aquarius Undersea laboratory in the Florida Keys. He was awarded First place in National Geographic’s 2009 International Photo Contest out of 208,000 contestants, and in 2011, Godwin was elected Underwater Photographer of the Year by IUCN (Geneva). He also was awarded First Place in two of Scuba Diving’s annual competitions; Best in Show and twice First Place in the Interna- tional Coral Reef Symposium Photo Contest; and First Place in BioArt Korea. In 2019, he was inducted into the Ocean Artist Society.
