“As a painter, there came a point when I wanted to break out of
the rectangular picture plane.
This shift in perspective allowed pure color, value, and form to drive the work. Composing with oval shapes, I con- sider how negative space flows around the arrangements that anchor my compositions. There is a simultaneous feel- ing of tension and balance created by their placement. And each form is a meditation on color. The properties of each pigment differ. Some pigments are physically lighter and float to the top, while others sink. As the paint dries, the pigments blend and settle creating organic marks that map unearthed color relationships.”
