Martinelli was born and raised in New York City and currently lives in New Mexico. He received his BFA from the School of Visual Arts and his MFA at Hunter College. He has exhibited widely, includ- ing at the the Brooklyn Museum, NY, and the Carnegie Museum, PA. He’s the recipient of two Pollock-Krasner Foundation awards, a New York Foundation for the Arts grant in photography and numerous fel- lowships including Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, Yaddo, Millay Colony and Tyrone Guthrie Center, Ireland. He has taught at Hunter College, the New School and Yale University. He had the good fortune of spending his first two years in New Mexico, living in the studio of his favorite painter and patron art saint, Agnes Martin. He worked for several years with earthwork artist Nancy Holt and later as the Archive and Digital Resources Manager for the Holt/Smithson Foundation located in Santa Fe.
