Ode to Wedding Cake Indica
—after Chris Abani
There is never enough tiredness
to solve incantation. Even longing is a gift.
My lungs are too ungrateful for the fog.
They absolve the body of disobedience,
convulse inside an over-worked hammock.
I wrap prayers around the blasphemy
with hope of reverting
to some nebular semblance overhead.
Snow geese—still phonic—manufacture
their formation from a language
only nihilists know. I take a single drag,
sink through the canvas—bonded and sovereign.
