“The work is motivated by statistics on the three- trillion dollar global apparel industry, rating second only to oil
in a list of the world’s largest industrial polluters, and that Aus- tralians buy around 27kg of textiles each year and discard 23kg into landfill. The work also draws on indigo’s long history of connecting humans with environment through cultivation and production of indigo plants, as well as its complex associations with globalization, slave trade, and industrialization.”
