Michele O’Brien, a mixed-media artist,
incorporates into her collages bright,
colorful palettes and a variety of papers including vintage, found, and hand-
painted sheets. The layering of paper creates some of the mystery and dream-like quality that she enjoys producing in her work. Strong early influences include exposure to Matisse’s energetic paper cut-out work and family trips to Mexico with its vibrant folk art and design. The opportuni- ty to travel has allowed her to see and experience art from many places beyond the United States, including South America, East Africa, parts of Europe, and Canada.
