Social Media Musings – Part III My Reflections on the Practice and Life
When I was younger I thought it was all about ideas. Now I realize it’s mostly about the work that makes the ideas a reality.
Keep track of your achievements and write them down on a list. It will serve to boost your confidence and address your impostor syndrome.
I read biographies to emulate those who have succeeded. I read law firm websites to emulate firms who are successful.
Commit to reading a certain number of pages every day. Reading 30-40 pages a day can result in a book a week.
I have the privilege to put together programs for various bar associations. I do them for
a selfish reason. I learn so much from the speakers at these events. Volunteer. You’ll get so much out of it.
Two qualities have served me well. I’ve been up when I relied upon them and down when
I didn’t. First, perseverance. Doggedness. Hustle. Plain old refusing to take no and refusing to stay down. If something is in
my way, I’ll find a way around or over it. If it can’t be scaled, climbed or passed, well, I’m busting through. Second, not caring what others think. I don’t care what others think about the house I live in, the car I drive, the clothes I wear, the books I read, the causes I support or the beliefs I cherish. Keep your opinions to yourself, or don’t. Either way, I’m not listening. Get your own house in order and keep walking by. I’m not buying what you’re selling.
Lean into your strengths. Embrace your quirks. Explore your talents. You’re uniquely you and time spent developing someone else is wasted time.
