P. 135

Epilogue
As we put the finishing touches on this book, the number of new COVID cases is down, and the number of people getting vaccinated is up. The weather is getting warmer, and with it a sense that the worst of this may be over. And yet, threats of new variants loom on the horizon and while plans are starting to be made, nobody knows for certain what the future holds. It is this uncertainty that has made this season so challenging and unlike anything ever experienced before. And yet, as the stories in this book show, even in difficult times, the spirit of the FDCC and the strength of its members remains strong.
Working with the authors to put these stories together has been an inspiration to us both and we are pleased to have a record of the resilience of our fellow members for future generations to know what we all went through during the pandemic. In good and bad ways, we were all affected by the experience and have come out on the other side with a richer appreciation for what it means to be a member of this great organization. We acknowledge the pain and loss experienced by so many, and celebrate the joys that occurred during this time as well. Through it all, the FDCC stood firm in its commitment to its members and has emerged as a stronger body than any time in its history.
Our hope and prayer is that in these pages, you are inspired, amused, and comforted. We cannot wait to see you again!
