Strategic Planning for Law Firms
Firm’s Leadership
Who are the firm’s leaders? How long have they led the firm? What is their leadership approach? What leadership qualities and talents do they have? Which ones do they lack? How would you describe their leadership style? Are they grooming the next generation of leaders? How? If not, why not? How centralized is the firm’s leadership? How do you think your team would describe the firm’s leadership? Has the firm offered them any leadership training? If so, what?
Firm’s Turnover
What has been the firm turnover at the partnership, associate, paralegal and staff levels over the last year? Last five years? Do you consider it high? If so, what do you attribute that to?
Hiring and Retaining Young Lawyers
What are the firm’s policies, procedures and processes to hire associates? To retain them? To train them? Mentor them? What processes has the firm found successful? Which ones has it not found successful? What input do associates have in their training and mentoring? What feedback has the firm received from associates about their training and mentoring? What feedback does the firm give them? What information does the firm share with them?
Retaining Rising Stars
Who are your rising stars? How are you empowering, training and equipping them? How are you compensating them? What discussions have you had with them about their future at the firm and their future role in the firm? How is the firm treating them? What threats are there to losing them? How is the firm addressing those threats?
