Strategic Planning for Law Firms
   Reducing Plan to Writing
Make sure all the key points have been written down so that someone can turn them into a written plan. Put yourselves on a tight timetable to draft, circulate, revise and finalize the plan.
Securing Buy In for Plan
Once the plan is finalized, circulate it to
the rest of the firm and get everyone’s buy
in. The team, collectively is responsible for bringing the plan into fruition, so you have to take steps to ensure everyone on the team understands the plan, understands their role in executing it and are committed to doing so.
Having a Follow up
Retreat
Sometimes one retreat is not enough. Sometimes, despite the best efforts and planning, you can’t accomplish what you set out at the retreat. If significant work remains and if what remains can’t be addressed over a lunch meeting or a few e-mails, consider having a follow up retreat. The second retreat need not be as long or elaborate as the first. It can be 4-5 hours on a weekday after 5 p.m. or a Saturday morning in the firm.
